Sheriff: 49-year-old man found shot to death in yard near Hope Mills

Deputies found a 49-year-old man shot to death late Wednesday night in the front yard of a Cumberland County residence, officials said.

HOPE MILLS, N.C. — Deputies found a 49-year-old man shot to death late Wednesday night in the front yard of a Cumberland County residence, officials said.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to 2439 Balaam Drive, near Hope Mills, after someone reported shots being fired. When deputies arrived, they found Terry Leake, who had been shot.

Leake was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Kevin McLean, 45, of the 1200 block of Chilton Drive in Fayetteville, was arrested late Thursday and charged with second-degree murder. He was being held in the Cumberland County jail under a $750,000 bond.
