44-year-old man killed in Rocky Mount shooting

Authorities are investigating a homicide that occurred early Thursday morning in Rocky Mount.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Authorities are investigating a homicide that occurred early Thursday morning in Rocky Mount.

Rocky Mount police said officers responded to a report of an injured person at 152 Tony Circle just before 2 a.m. and located Robert Lynch, 44, with gunshot wounds.

Lynch was taken to Nash UNC Healthcare, where he died as a result of his injuries.

"The Rocky Mount Police Department offers their condolences to the Lynch family and any other family who has suffered a loss in such a tragic way,” said Rocky Mount Police Chief James Moore. “We have worked collaboratively with our neighborhood and ministerial leaders to alleviate gun violence in our city. However, the gun violence crisis that is spreading throughout our country and state this year necessitates reinvigoration of our efforts."
