FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A 4-year-old was struck and killed by a car Wednesday evening while running across a street, police said.

Jamaya McCormic was crossing Grove Street near B Street at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday with her mother and two other children, police said. An older child carried the girl halfway across the street and put her down as they reached the center turn lane, police said.

The girl then ran into traffic towards the other side of Grove Street and was hit by a car driven by Harold Johnson, police said.

No charges have been filed in the case, which remains under investigation by the Fayetteville Police Department Traffic Unit.
