— A 4-year-old was struck and killed by a car Wednesday evening while running across a street, police said.

Jamaya McCormic was crossing Grove Street near B Street at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday with her mother and two other children, police said. An older child carried the girl halfway across the street and put her down as they reached the center turn lane, police said.

The girl then ran into traffic towards the other side of Grove Street and was hit by a car driven by Harold Johnson, police said.

No charges have been filed in the case, which remains under investigation by the Fayetteville Police Department Traffic Unit.

I am a family friend and the story is a little off. The mother was hit first and then Maya was struck. Maya was an awesome powerhouse for God so I know this baby is well on her way to heaven. She had church daily at home with her dolls and stuffed animals. I pray that people realize that this a lesson for all of us to learn from. Life is short. ~Coco~

Awww, so sad. I always either kept my hands on my children or they were in a stroller...but they can get away so quickly, and death comes between one breath and the next.

The older child must just feel awful.

    Praying for the entire family.

    God bless.

very sad for the family - how devastating to lose your young child, any child, for that matter. Just breaks your heart.

As the parent of a 4 year old this is just horrible. I can only imagine how I would feel if this happened to my child and it may be just as bad for the driver of the car. I couldn't imagine harming a small child never mind have the die in a car accident I was involved in.
