26-year-old man charged in Fayetteville sexual assault case

A 26-year-old Fayetteville man has been charged in connection with a Feb. 1 sexual assault that happened on Southwood Drive, police said.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A 26-year-old Fayetteville man has been charged in connection with a Feb. 1 sexual assault that happened on Southwood Drive, police said.

Cleo Chalwell, of the 500 block of Jennings Farm Road, is charged with three counts of first-degree statutory rape, three counts of indecent liberties with a minor and assault inflicting serious bodily injured. Authorities say Chalwell knew the 15-year-old victim.

Chalwell was in the Cumberland County jail Thursday being held on a $1.6 million secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
