RALEIGH, N.C. — A 20-year-old was charged with murder in connection with the Sunday death of his girlfriend's infant daughter.

Raleigh police said officers were dispatched to a code blue call in the 800 block of Suffolk Boulevard at about 8:20 p.m. Sunday and found a 10-month-old girl who was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to an arrest warrant, the child had a lacerated kidney and liver.

Marcus Larenzo Alston was charged with felony child abuse and murder in connection with the death. Alston was the boyfriend of the 10-month-old girl's mother and was caring for the girl at the time of the incident, the search warrant said.

Authorities said Alston lived in the same apartment as the infant and her mother. He is not allowed to have contact with the family following his arrest, the warrant said.

Alston was being held without bond and was on probation for previous convictions at the time of his arrest. He is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning.
