2 Charged Following Southern Pines Police Standoff

Bobby Markees McBride, 22, of Sanford was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, assault inflicting serious injury with a minor present, first-degree kidnapping, attempted first-degree sex offense, assault on a child under 12 years of age and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Michael Keith Johnson, 22, of Sanford, was charged with resist, delay and obstruct an officer in the performance of his duties.

Officers went to the 100 block of Coats Street at about 11:40 p.m. Sunday to respond to a report of a woman screaming. The officers determined that children and one or two men were in an apartment with the woman and that a weapon might be involved in the situation, police said.

The Southern Pines Police Department Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiation Team were called to assist, and officers were later able to get the woman and children out of the apartment. The woman, whose name wasn't released, was taken to Moore Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries, which weren't believed to be life-threatening.

Johnson sand McBride were arrested after that, police said.

McBride also was wanted by the Sanford Police Department on warrants charging him with assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon and by the North Carolina Department of Correction on a probation violation.
