CLAYTON, N.C. — A 19-year-old died and another person was injured Sunday in a crash in Johnston County, authorities said.

The crash happened near the intersection of Cornwallis Road and Lee Drive at about 3 p.m.

Troopers said a car traveling on Cornwallis Road went down an embankment and hit a utility pole.

The driver, Montia Rhodes, was taken to WakeMed with life-threatening injuries. Trey Anthony Spencer, who was a passenger in the car, died in the crash.

Speed was a factor, troopers said.
