18-year-old arrested in Garner shooting

An 18-year-old man was arrested in the Wednesday morning shooting of a 44-year-old Mebane man in Garner, according to the Wake County Sheriff's Office.

GARNER, N.C. — An 18-year-old man was arrested in the Wednesday morning shooting of a 44-year-old Mebane man in Garner, according to the Wake County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators believe that Vonterio Elroy Best, of Goldsboro, shot Glen Wallace at 4613 Barrington Hills Drive around 2:30 a.m. Wallace suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to WakeMed in Raleigh.

Best was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

He was being held in the Wake County Jail early Thursday. His first court appearance was set for Friday.

Darryl Jesson Williams Jr., 21, of Goldsboro, was charged with accessory after the fact, authorities said. Authorities say Williams drove Best away from the crime scene.

Williams was being held under a $100,000 bond at the Wake County jail on Thursday.
