17-year-old charged with raping, choking Carthage woman

The Moore County Sheriff's Office has charged a 17-year-old man with raping and assaulting a 37-year-old woman in the Carolina Lakes subdivision on Dec. 31.

CARTHAGE, N.C. — The Moore County Sheriff's Office charged a 17-year-old man with raping and assaulting a 37-year-old woman in the Carolina Lakes subdivision New Year's Eve.

Deputies arrested Jordan Nathaniel Mitchell, of 145 Heron Road, and charged him with second-degree rape, second-degree kidnapping and assault by strangulation.

An EMS crew took the victim to First Health Moore Regional emergency room, where she was treated for her injuries and released.

Mitchell was being held in the Moore County Jail under a $200,000 bond Friday. His first court appearance was scheduled for Jan. 12.

Mitchell was twice sentenced to probation in 2008, according to state Department of Correction records. He was convicted of carrying a weapon on state property in Hoke County in May and of misdemeanor breaking-and-entering in Moore County in November.
