131 applicants want Fayetteville police chief's job

print friendly

The city of Fayetteville has received 131 applications for former Police Chief Tom Bergamine's position.

A spokesman for the city said Friday that the application period closed Oct. 5 and that the applications will be reviewed this month.

Bergamine retired in July after more than five years on the job.

Katherine Bryant, a veteran officer with the Fayetteville Police Department, is serving as interim police chief.

Officer Bryant would be a wonderful choice, But she doesn't want the position at the current time.

Why?

I agree, why bring in an outsider when someone from inside is already 'doing' the job, and I suspect doing it well. Hire the BEST QUALIFIED person regardless of race or anything else should they choose to hire someone else. I'm sick of less qualified getting jobs based solely on 'diversity'.

Screen the applications to meet EEOC standards and then give the job to Katherine. The City will NOT find a more competent person to make Chief of Police.
