ELIZABETHTOWN, N.C. — Twelve students at a Bladen County high school have been charged following a fight at the school Monday.

Chief Deputy Phillip Little of the Bladen County Sheriff's Office said the fight broke out before lunch Monday morning at West Bladen High School. A school resource officer suffered minor injuries as he tried to break up the fight.

Little said the fight was between two "loosely organized" groups of students who have clashed before.

A dozen students, half under age 18, were charged with inciting a riot and assault on a government officer, Little said.

School was closed Tuesday. Sheriff's deputies were continuing to investigate the altercation and, Little said, more arrests may result.
