NC authorities find 43 prison escapees, still searching for 12
The North Carolina Department of Public Safety is seeking help in locating 12 long-term escapees from the North Carolina prison system.
Posted — UpdatedA yearlong investigation between the DPS and the Federal Bureau of Investigation has led to the arrest, location or death confirmation of 43 long-term escapees. That number represents a decrease of about 30 percent of the department’s outstanding escape cases, many of which date back to the 1960s.
Ten fugitives were found at-large and arrested, 15 were found incarcerated in other state or federal prisons, and 18 are confirmed or believed to be dead.
A list of 12 most wanted escapees has now been developed from the remaining cases. All of the wanted escapees have been at-large for many years and are likely living under different identities.
The list includes:
Linda Williams, armed robbery
Anybody with information regarding the escapees is asked to call the Department of Public Safety at 919-838-3572.
