RALEIGH, N.C. — A woman is mourning the death of her son after he was killed early Saturday morning while riding his motorcycle in Raleigh.

Police have charged 26-year-old Neri Cruz-Carmona in the crash, saying he hit JàMar Beach and drove away.

According to the police report, Cruz-Carmona was turning left onto Bonneville Court from New Hope Church Road. He failed to yield and crashed into Beach's motorcycle, which was traveling westbound on New Hope Church Road.

Investigators found Cruz-Carmona's car a short distance away from the scene and tracked him down.

Beach’s family is grieving his death and told WRAL in an interview that they would describe him as an adventurous, outgoing man who loved his family.

"He was just a special child," said Cameo Robinson, Beach's mother.

"He worked to take care of his family and his son and to make his mom proud, which he did."

She said Beach especially lived for his fiancé and his 16-month-old son.

Beach also loved his motorcycle, which his mother says he rode safely.

"He was doing what he loved to do [when he died]," Robinson said. "And although I fussed, 'Jamar stay off that bike. You have a son now. You can’t be on that bike,' he was like, 'Ma, I’ll be alright. I’ll be alright.'"

Officials say Cruz-Carmona is an undocumented immigrant and is being held under an ICE detainer.

Robinson said, even as she is planning a funeral for her oldest child, she will be at every court appearance and ensure that justice is carried out in her son’s case.

"I am very angry, and I have to keep talking to my God to keep me in a sane place," she said.

"I'm gonna make him proud to know that his momma is gonna pull the strength from everywhere to make sure that justice is served for him. He deserves that."
