LILLINGTON, N.C. — U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke on Tuesday announced a $1 million Economic Development Administration grant for water, sewer, road and drainage improvements at Harnett County’s science and technology park.

The project is expected to create 100 jobs and generate $56 million in private investment, according to estimates by the Harnett Forward Together Committee, Harnett County and the East Central Water and Sewer District of Lillington.

“This grant will strengthen the region’s biotechnology, health care and research sectors by providing the critical infrastructure needed to establish the Harnett Health Systems hospital and other science- and technology-based businesses in the area,” Locke said in a statement.
