Spring Lake police chief relieved of duties

Spring Lake has announced its police chief has been relieved of his duties.

Dysoaneik Spellman is leaving his role as the town's chief after more than eight years with the police department.

In a release, the town called Spellman "an integral part of the Spring Lake community."

"The Town expresses its gratitude for Chief Spellman's service and contributions and extends our best wishes to him in his future endeavors," a release said. "The commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all residents remains the town's priority."

The town's police department has approximately 22 officers serving.

While the role is vacant, the department's operations will be overseen by experienced senior officers.
