So Consumer Reports says be flexible with your choices, especially when it comes to laptops.

If you don’t need heavy lifting, CR says a Chromebook is a good option.

"They’re great for email, spreadsheets or doing research online,” added CR’s Chris Raymond.

Testers were is impressed with the processing speeds of the HP Chromebook, 14B-NA0010WM, saying its battery will last through the work or school day.

If you don’t need the latest and greatest, save money buying slightly older models.

CR likes the 32GB Apple iPad from 2020, or the 128GB Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 from 2019.

Tests show both are fast with a quality display.

Another way to save, and maybe score a device you need, check out certified pre-owned models.

But make sure you find a reputable seller.

Finally, if your headphones have seen better days, CR says the wireless Anker Soundcore Liberty Air has very good sound quality.

They cost $60.

If you need to block out noise, CR says the Monoprice BT-300ANC headphones work great, and come at a great price $45.
