Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Frederik Andersen is out indefinitely with a medical issue, the team announced Monday.

Andersen has a blood clotting issue that was discovered during recent medical testing, the team said.

“There is currently no timetable for his return, but we are confident Freddie will be able to make a full recovery,” the team said in a statement.

Andersen is in his 11th season in the league and his third with the Hurricanes. During his time in Carolina, Andersen recorded 60 wins as a goalie and allowed an average of 2.50 goals per game.

Andersen, who has not played a game since Nov. 2, is 4-1 with a .894 save percentage in six games so far this season.

Antti Raanta has started four games in net while Pyotr Kochetkov has started two games for the Hurricanes.

Goalie Jaroslav Halak joined the Hurricanes as a free agent tryout at practice on Monday. Halak, 38, played 25 games for the New York Rangers last season.

The Hurricanes (7-5-0) host the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night at PNC Arena.
