Appalachian State University chancellor to resign due to 'health challenges'

Appalachian State University's chancellor, Sheri Everts, has announced her resignation in a letter published Monday.

BOONE, N.C. — The chancellor at Appalachian State University announced Monday that she is stepping down from her position.

Sheri Everts made the announcement in a letter. Her resignation takes effect on Friday.

Over the last few months, I have been experiencing significant health challenges, and I must now focus on my personal health and wellbeing," Everts wrote. "I am incredibly proud of the growth and development of the university over the last ten years, and I look forward to seeing the development of the Innovation District and the Hickory Campus, in particular, and the many ways the region will continue to thrive with the benefit of these important state resources.

Everts thanked the university's faculty and said she was proud of the students.

Since July 2014, Everts served in her role at Appalachian State. Prior to her time at App State, Everts was the provost and vice president for academic affairs at Illinois State University.
