ZEBULON, N.C. — Zebulon police are warning locals of a fake event that seems to be luring small business owners into paying for a booth.

Police posted a flyer for the event on Wednesday, writing, "Buyer beware: This is not a legitimate event. If you have paid to set up a booth for a nonexistent event. reach out to us."

The flyer is promoting an event called 'Summerfest,' which it says it scheduled for the dates of August 5 and 6, as well as 19 and 20. The word 'August' is spelled wrong on the flyer.

The flyer promises 'direct sales' for crafters, small businesses and boutiques. The address is listed as 689 Wakefield Street in Zebulon, which is at Whitley Park.

Police say there was also a fake event at the same address in June.

"If you lost money, we need to hear from you," write police.
