Although Mardi Gras has been canceled this year, the demand for the popular King Cakes is still high
Lake Charles is preparing for Um, or low key Mardi Gras celebration this year. And while floats may not be parading down the streets, residents are still canning on celebrating with king cakes. They get to see it, they get to smell it, they get to taste it. And you, you've reached so many senses that helped bring that that yummy goodness to their world that might be missing in so many other ways. That's exactly what Delicious Donuts and Bakery has been doing for the last 27 years with their pastries and famous king cakes. Bakery owner Paula Stephen says that Kobe, 19 and the efforts to recover from the 2020 hurricane season have posed numerous new challenges due to the hurricane. Ah, lot of our employees lost their housing or their sitters, Um, and they're just having, you know, a number of other challenges. So we're down probably, um, about 20 to 25% of what our normal staff is. And with the smaller staff and an increase demand for king cakes, delicious doughnut and bakery had to make a very difficult decision, one that included reducing the number of flavors they usually offer. We normally offer about 30 different flavors, and this year we're gonna only be offering about seven different flavors. Yet despite these obstacles, Pamela says they hope their king cakes Kenbrell some joy, especially in such dark times. As bad as things are in the rest of the world, there are still things that are just a wonderful and you gotta find a little bit of joy in each and every day.
