RALEIGH, N.C. — The clouds and chilly rain that made Tuesday feel more like January than April will move out through the evening, and the rest of the week brings a return of spring.

Before the sunny skies return, though, counties immediately to the west of the Triangle could deal with a slushy commute. In Moore and Hoke counties, there will be some minor accumulations of sleet or snow on grassy or elevated surfaces, according to the National Weather Service.

After a high temperature of only 38 degrees at Raleigh-Durham International Airport Tuesday, Wake and counties to the north and west are under a frost advisory through the night.

Wednesday will be considerably warmer. The forecast calls for 68 degrees under sunny skies.

The rain moves away to the east, tapering off through Tuesday evening, WRAL meteorologist Mike Maze said.

Wednesday and Thursday will be quiet with plenty of sun and high temperatures rising into the mid-70s.

Friday the warmth backs off a bit – to a high of only 67 degrees – and a chance for rain showers returns.

The sun returns in full force for the weekend, and we could see 80 degrees in Raleigh by Sunday afternoon.
