Young Eagles to fly at Johnston airport

Children will get free airplane rides during an open house at the Johnston County Airport Saturday.

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Children will get free airplane rides during an open house at the Johnston County Airport Saturday.

Local aviators volunteer for the Young Eagles Rally to get children interested in learning how to fly.

The free rides will be given to children eight to 17 years old. Parents must be present to register their children.

Military, civil and remote-control aircraft will also be on display.

The event will run 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Johnston County Airport, 3149 Swift Creek Road in Smithfield.
