You don't call ... you don't write

I've been getting into trouble with Mama Basaran these days. She doesn't say so, but I know she's not very happy with me. The reason... I don't call enough. What is enough? For us, once per week isn't cutting it.

Yeah, it's true. I have a ridiculously intense career. Yeah, it's true. I have three kids of my own to worry about. Yeah, it's true. I have to hire a new babysitter, find a preschool, clean my house, host guests over the weekend and the list goes on and on. Sure it all sounds very busy, but it all adds up to one lousy excuse.

I started thinking about how I’d feel when I'm the mama who misses her children and they don't call or they live too far away to visit. It made me sad and sorta brought tears to my eyes.

Mom: not only did I call you as soon as I pictured myself in your shoes, but I wrote a blog about it. I promise to be a better daughter. Now you have it in writing. I will call more often. I will write more often. There it is... a promise from a daughter to her mother. Your favorite words of wisdom still with me after all these years: what goes around comes around.
