If you’re a fan of the speedy blue video game character that became Sega’s mascot in 1991 — and you love stuffing your own adorable plush toys — you’re in luck. Sonic the Hedgehog is now available at Build-A-Bear Workshop stores.
In conjunction with last week’s successful “Sonic the Hedgehog” movie release (it earned a cool $70 million over the holiday weekend), Build-A-Bear has released a super-cute soft toy version of the character. It’s already out of stock online, but an announcement on Twitter last week indicates that you should now be able to find the product in stores around North America.
Here’s the post from @buildabear:
The basic Sonic the Hedgehog Build-A-Bear toy costs $29. As with all Build-A-Bear toys, you can have it stuffed at the store to suit your huggability preference. (Personally, I prefer mine softer. I mean, my kid does!) And of course, you can add a little fabric heart.
If you want to get your Sonic the Hedgehog all tricked out, you’re going to want to add his signature red running shoes. These cost $9.50.
And you’ll probably want one of the golden rings he loves to collect. This comes as a wrist accessory and costs $7.50.
There’s no reason you couldn’t put this on your Build-A-Bear Girl Scout cookie bear or even your swanky Swarovski-crystal studded bear, if you felt like it! Build-A-Bear is also teasing an upcoming “Doctor Who” bear release.
Build-A-Bear has actually had a Sonic the Hedgehog plush before; the previous version, which was released with Sonic’s sidekick Tails, came out in 2016 to celebrate the character’s 25th anniversary. Back then, a set with a golden ring, art print and plush cost $35.
This time around, you can get the Deluxe Sonic the Hedgehog Gift Set with Sound (and the shoes and the ring) for $53 online. That is, when it’s back in stock. The combination costs the same in stores.

And you might want to lace up your own running shoes to get to your closest location! This hedgehog will be going fast.
