WUNC President Connie Walker dies

Connie Walker, president and general manager of WUNC-FM, North Carolina's public radio station, died on Thursday.

DURHAM, N.C. — Connie Walker, president and general manager of WUNC-FM, North Carolina’s public radio station, died on Thursday.

Walker was appointed to her position in 2009. Before that, she worked for over 25 years in various positions at WUNC.

In a statement, Acting President and General Manager Nora Casper said Walker played "a vital role in our station's growth and many successes over the past 16 years."

Walker was also active in the community, including being a Big Sister mentor through Big Brothers and Sisters of the Triangle.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Connie's loved ones. She will be missed by her WUNC family," said Casper.

Funeral arrangements for Walker are pending.
