RALEIGH, N.C. — An overnight crash involving a wrong-way driver on Interstate 440 prompted authorities to close all eastbound lanes of the freeway, snarling the morning commute for drivers on the east side of Raleigh.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m. on I-440 right before the New Bern Avenue exit at Yonkers Road.

The lanes reopened around 7:30 a.m.

Police said several people were hurt during the incident, which occurred when the driver of a car collided with a pick-up truck. The drivers of both vehicles and a passenger in the car were taken to WakeMed for treatment of serious injuries. The patients' identities were pending.

Drivers were ordered to use Yonkers Road as a detour.

Right before 7:30 a.m., one of the disabled vehicles was seen being towed from the scene. The lanes reopened shortly after that.

Police did not immediately say if anyone would face charges in connection with the incident.
