List: NC beaches open with some restrictions in place

Some local beaches have reopened with restrictions, while others remain closed. Here's a look at what's open and what's not.

Wrightsville Beach lifted all restrictions on beach activities on Friday, May 20. All short-term rental restrictions are lifted. Six beach accesses with parking lots are now open. Public, on-street parking spaces are closed to the public. These spaces have meters, which are covered with "no parking bags" on them.

All parks will remain close, except for the tennis court at Wrightsville Beach.

Carolina Beach, which neighbors Wrightsville Beach, lifted its town-imposed restrictions. The town said state guidelines of social-distancing are still in place. Gatherings are limited to 10 people or fewer, and restaurants in the town will be operating on a take-out only basis. Parking , beach activities and short-term rentals are no longer restricted.

Kure Beach lifted its ban on short-term rentals. Some parking restrictions are lifted and public beach access parking will be opened at 50% its capacity. People who park their cars overnight will be given tickets, and parking is properly marked.

Public bathrooms at the town will be open and disinfected more frequently than normal.

The beach access are open but with limited parking at Atlantic Beach. All the bathrooms still are closed. Only gatherings of 10 or fewer are allowed. Restaurants and bar dining areas are not open at the beach.

Vacation rentals are now allowed on the beach. The ban on motel and hotel rentals was lifted on May 8.

Holden Beach has been open for exercise and relaxation since April 21. Public restrooms facilities are still closed, but all public beach accesses are open. Residents of Holden Beach are "encouraged to stay close to home," according to town.

Ocean Isle Beach is opening up its beach with public parking and short-term rentals. The beach strand will be open for exercise and relaxation. Chairs are allowed, the town said. All previously approved group activity applications are still revoked.

Oak Island beaches are open to visitors and residents. All beach parking is open, and all town parks are open except for restrooms at those parks.

Sunset Beach lifted its beach restrictions on May 15. Parking and beach access is no longer restricted. Public restrooms will still be closed, and beach rentals will be restricted until May 22, according to the town.

Restrooms at the Fort Raleigh Visitor Center, Wright Brothers pavilion, Cape Hatteras beach and sound-side parking areas and visitor centers will be open May 22.

Camping, with limited capacity will be available at Cape Hatteras campgrounds beginning May 22; however, campsite reservations and payments will only be available online.

Lifeguard services begin at Coquina Beach, Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Beach, Frisco Beach, and Ocracoke Beach on May 23.

Bodie Island and Cape Hatteras lighthouses remain closed to the public, as do Fort Raleigh, Wright Brothers and Cape Hatteras Visitor Centers and bookstores.

Beach access has opened, but groups should be less than 10. The Emerald Isle fireworks held on July 4 are canceled and public restrooms are closed on the beach. Short-term beach rentals can be made at the beach.

Currituck, Dare and Hyde counties said restrictions on entry for visitors will be lifted at noon on Saturday, May 16.

Entry for visitors includes the towns of Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head and Manteo; Hatteras Island; Roanoke Island; the Dare mainland; the Currituck County Outer Banks; and Ocracoke Island, the statement said.

Specifically, Ocracoke non-resident property owners will be allowed entry starting on May 11.

Surf City beaches opened April 18 to visitors and residents. The public beach access points are open, but parking lots and bathrooms are closed.

People are asked to maintain social distancing.
