FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Police have identified the man who died in a weather-related wreck Thursday afternoon as a former Fayetteville State University football player.

A black Monte Carlo driven by Dwight Geron Harper Jr., 22, of Maysville, hydroplaned in the 1700 block of Pamalee Drive, police said. The Monte Carlo crossed the center line and struck a Jeep.

Harper died from his injuries, police said. The driver of the Jeep sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
