Wreck Knocks Out Power, Shuts Down Garner Road

A single-vehicle accident knocked out power to more than 1,500 customers and shut down Garner Road Monday morning.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A single-vehicle accident knocked out power to more than 1,500 customers and shut down Garner Road Monday morning.

A car hit a power pole outside the YMCA, at 2235 Garner Road, shortly before 4:30 a.m.,  authorities said. The driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to WakeMed.

Police shut down Garner Road between Rush Street and Newcombe Road. Officials said they expected to reopen the road by 9:30 a.m.

Progress Energy officials said a power outage affected 1,531 customers. Crews had restored electricity to all but 472 customers by 6 a.m.

Full service should be restored by 7:15 a.m.
