CARY, N.C. — A single-vehicle toppled a utility pole in Cary early Friday, knocking out power to hundreds and shutting down Walnut Street, police said.

One person was injured and taken to WakeMed after the wreck, which happened around 2:30 a.m., police said.

A Progress Energy representative said that about 675 customers lost power. Service was expected to be restored by 8:45 a.m.

Walnut Street was closed between Meeting Street and Dillard Drive while crews replaced the utility pole. Police planned to have the street reopened by the morning rush hour.
