The latest on the incoming snow as it enters our area.

Good morning, everyone. I am Leena. Tell it and we're following breaking weather news. The snow is falling across our area. This is a live look in Wake Forest where you can clearly see the snow in this camera lens. Here it's already snowing in Lewisburg as well. Take a look at these photographs. You can see the accumulation. It is snowing considerably there and you can see it's snowing pretty quickly as well. Began around after midnight, the viewer tells us. Grounds are now covered in Lewisburg. Let's get straight to meteorologist Zach Matlock. With the look of what's happening right now, this is pretty much all across our viewing area, and it's very exciting because a lot of people have been waiting for it. Zack Yes, We've been talking about it for quite some time. Lena, the snow is now here. It is accumulating minutes ago. We've got a report from a person county and roxborough half an inch of total snow accumulation thus far, and we could see that accumulation not only on the grassy surfaces but also on the roads itself. So this is gonna be a trend in a pattern, will see all morning long where we're going to see some of the snow continue to come down. Here is the view to the north, and Lake gassed him. We're seeing the light snow there, accumulating just mine early on the grassy surfaces. Well, is that park bench right there? And we're seeing the snow line creeping farther to the south. Here is dual Doppler 5000 or radar here a WRL, and you can see that the snow is now moving into Wake County. Now moving into Orange County in Durham County. We are seeing snow falling, both at the Deeb APA's Well, Azaz in Chapel Hill in the downtown area. So snow is on the way and more will come. Look at all that blue to our northwestern Virginia and West Virginia that will wrap around this system and continue to accumulate through morning. So again, the snow accumulation zone from really the sandhills northward, everyone will see some snow on the grassy surfaces. Some of it will be melting as it falls, but when all is said and done through 7 a.m. we could have 2 to 3 inches of snow on the ground in person county all the way south and east to Franklin County, Nash County and to Rocky Mountain. Nashville is well and 1 to 2 inches in the triangle itself. We're seeing the snow come down rather quickly and future cash showing hour by hour. The snow will continue to creep farther to the south when WRL Morning News begins earlier this morning at 4 a.m. Well, seed snow pretty much everywhere and accumulating rather quickly with temperatures right above the freezing mark, snow as far south as the sandhills as well into Favell and Clinton around 6 to 7 a.m. and Alina. All this will be wrapping up around 7 to 8 a.m. So a lot going on. There's snow now moving through. And, as you said, Alina, we are now excited to see that the snow has finally arrived and maybe not too excited to see how much will come down over the next 4 to 5 hours. So that's the things act. It's the end of my day. It's the beginning of yours. You will have a very busy morning. So I hope people are tuning in because the roads could get messy later, right? Yes, they sure can. And we're seeing that right now in person. County, as you saw in Roxborough, some minor accumulation there. And that can be the stories. So if you're watching, maybe waking up or heading the better you have to wake up early again. Best to stay indoors in the morning time frame. It will melt rather fast. But again, lead as you saw, the accumulation is possible both on the roads and on the grass. All right, Zack, we know you have us covered. Thanks so much. It's definitely cold out here, but some of those snowflakes starting to kind of mix in here. I'm going to step behind the camera and zoom in on one of these light posts, and it'll give you kind of ah different view of how much uh, snow sleet is coming down right now is I'm gonna pan over here. We're down here in the downtown square where that iconic bull statue is. But see as I zoom in there and you see all that coming down that zits more sleep than anything right now. And I'll tell you where. You really gotta watch out. I've been on I 40 as I came from Raleigh, Thio Durham and then the Durham Freeway. And there's enough coming down that you definitely have to back it down a couple of miles an hour. The roads. There's some spots that are getting a little slicker out there, especially where the water is kind of ponding on the roadways. That's something that I've ran into a couple of times out there. So it's something that you wanna watch out for if you have to be tonight. But hopefully you don't have to be out there tonight. I'm gonna be traveling up to Roxborough now. See all that snow that we we've seen with some of those pictures and check in on that and some other road spots, and I'll be monitoring this all throughout the night. I'll have you covered every hour or so and then whenever a morning show starts at four AM Lena alright, Britney's reporting live in Durham. Thanks so much. I'm meteorologist, Kat Campbell in the wr a severe weather center. No more thirties in the forecast and we don't have a frost threat tonight so you can leave your plants be, temperatures are falling into the upper forties to lower fifties overnight. We've got a different wind direction and some more clouds that will fill in by daybreak tomorrow at the bus stop, it'll be in the low to mid fifties for most of the kids out there. So a mild start, but you may want to send your kids to school with an umbrella because by the time they head home, some of us are going to be dealing with a chance for rain during the afternoon. It's all due to this cold front. Approaching from the northwest. There's not a lot of moisture for the front to work with, but just enough and enough lift to squeeze out some rain. I think that rain chances would start in our northwestern counties around 11 a.m. through lunchtime. And then that chance is really closer to, to three o'clock here in the triangle. But that might be when the kids are heading home as we get toward 456. It would be south and east of the triangle with the best chance for rain. Rocky Mount, Southern Pines. I'm thinking you'll be in that 3 to 5 p.m. time frame for rain. It's not going to be a very heavy rain. There is a small chance of a thunderstorm embedded, but most of us will just see some pretty light rain. In fact, models are showing less than 5/100 of an inch of rain. So very tiny rainfall amounts from this event. We do have the Durham Bulls in town this week. And luckily the forecast looks good for all of their home games. First pitch is at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We've just got wonderful baseball weather. Temperatures will be near 70 for the first pitches and the rain should be over in Durham, the triangle by the time we get to dinner time for tomorrow evening, which means it's likely to be a dry game for us. Your seven day forecast show, some big changes are on the way though. We've got 74 for the high Wednesday with chance for rain Thursday just 72. So a small dip in our high temperatures more noticeable at night though we fall into the upper forties Thursday night to Friday morning, we're going with 47 as the low Friday morning around the triangle. And then once we get to the weekend temperatures begin to rebound. However, that will come with an increasing cloud cover mostly cloudy Saturday and Sunday. But back in the eighties by Sunday and even warmer next week, highs could climb near 90 a week from today.
