Raleigh’s hometown race is pleased to announce WRAL as the presenting sponsor of the 2018 City of Oaks Marathon, set to take place Nov. 3-4, 2018. The partnership will continue the tradition of promoting active, healthy lifestyles throughout the Triangle, as well as supporting the race’s longtime beneficiaries, including the YMCA of the Triangle, Girls on the Run of the Triangle and the Rex Foundation.

WRAL-TV Vice President and General Manager Steven D. Hammel explained the new partnership, “What a terrific combination! Raleigh’s hometown race partnering with Raleigh’s hometown station! We are delighted to join forces with the City of Oaks Marathon to benefit the local Triangle community and help make this event as successful as possible.”

In addition to keeping the community updated on race-related content and pre-race events throughout the months leading up to the City of Oaks Marathon, WRAL will also have extensive race day coverage, including an opportunity to run along on Facebook live and streaming live video throughout the day.

“Our partnership with WRAL is a natural fit as City of Oaks Marathon is Raleigh’s hometown race, and WRAL is the leading local news source that is deeply invested in improving and impacting our community’s well-being,” said John Kane, founder and CEO of Capstone Event Group, organizer of the City of Oaks Marathon.

Race weekend kicks off Saturday, Nov. 3, with the free Duke Raleigh Health and Wellness Expo at NC State’s McKimmon Center, where runners and spectators will experience a variety of interactive vendors.

Race day provides a variety of distance options for runners to choose from, including the City of Oaks Marathon, UNC REX Healthcare Half Marathon, Marathon Relay, Old Reliable 10k, Acorn 5k and a Kids’ Mile. The race will start and finish on Hillsborough Street with a course that features many of Raleigh’s most scenic and iconic locations, including downtown Raleigh, NC State University, Meredith College and the Capitol Area Greenways. After the race, participants will enjoy a post-race party featuring live music from local favorite Liquid Pleasure, free local craft beer from 1323 R&D, food, vendors and more.

Runners take part in the inaugural Sony Ericsson City of Oaks Marathon in Raleigh.
