Raleigh, N.C. — WRAL News has been chosen as one of 220 newsrooms nationwide to be part of the Report for America program in 2020-21.
Report for America is a national service program that places talented young journalists into local news organizations to report for one to two years on under-reported issues and communities.
WRAL plans to employ a full-time Report for America journalist in eastern North Carolina, covering issues from decreasing access to health care across the region to conflicts between conservationists and the commercial fishing industry along North Carolina’s coast. The reporter, who will produce content for WRAL’s newscasts and digital platforms, will also delve into education disparities, environmental concerns and economic struggles.
"We are so excited to partner with Report for America to bring coverage to important issues in eastern North Carolina that often don’t get a lot of coverage," Ashley Talley, WRAL's enterprise executive producer, said in a statement. "From fisheries to farming, from Pender to Pasquotank, WRAL is thrilled to employ a reporter to live and work in this important part of our state."
