3. A tragic, violent story out of Fayetteville: a deputy shot and suspect killed at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in November.
2. The second-biggest local news Facebook post of the year had something we don't see enough in news: a happy ending.

Family members said the 3-year-old child had followed her dog into some nearby woods — but eventually, Allyson and her dog Bella were found together.

Allyson was taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution. Her family then celebrated her birthday a day late, with gifts, food and prayers that she had been found safe.

1. We're pleased to say that the top story of 2019 is yet another one with a happy ending: the search for Casey Hathaway.

After a two-day search in Craven County, in the chill of winter (rain and 20-degree temperatures), the missing 3-year-old was found 50 yards into the woods, cold and tangled in briars, but unharmed.

Casey told authorities that a bear kept him company in the woods. And as CNN opined, "No one can prove it didn't happen."

And that's our local news year in Facebook in review. Happy New Year!
