RALEIGH, N.C. — If there's anything that can keep my kids entertained, it is arts and crafts -- especially when mom gets involved. But sometimes they can be VERY involved, more than a little messy, and quite expensive! We recently discovered a fun activity in our house that is relatively clean and really cheap -- face painting!

I'm no artist, but to my kids, I might as well be Picasso!

A $5 face paint kit purchased on a whim months ago from Wal-Mart has come in really handy -- especially on rainy days when we have to stay inside and find ways to stay occupied. My kids love flipping through the book, picking out whatever design they want, and watching the artist (ahem, me!) go to work. This can take as few as 5 minutes, or as much as 2 hours ... depending on the detail and how much time I have! When I'm finished with the kids' faces -- we switch places and I let them paint MY face! They get a huge kick out of catching their reflections in the mirror the rest of the day, and love to see their artwork displayed on my face for hours.

The paint washes off easily, and aside from a napkin and a cup of water (as long as it doesn't get spilled!), there's really no mess. It is not an every day activity ... but we break it out a few days a week and the kids haven't gotten tired of it yet. It is something we are having a lot of fun with, and I hope its something you and your family will enjoy too!
