ANGIER, N.C. — Tucked away on North Carolina Highway 55 along a winding two lane road, Sunni Sky's homemade ice cream is a hidden gem.

With more than 120 homemade flavors, the cash-only shop has become a destination during hot summer days. While there isn't much seating indoors, the front porch has rocking chairs, and there are picnic tables around the building.

As much as it's known for its tasty flavors like banana pudding and Rice Krispy Treat, it is also known as the home to one of the spiciest ice creams around. Dubbed Cold Sweat, the flavor features some of the hottest peppers in the world. In order to try Cold Sweat, visitors need to sign a liability waiver. And if you get through Cold Sweat, there is an even spicier flavor available next: Exit Wound.

Sunni Sky's, which was named for the owner's children Skylar and Sunni, opened nearly 16 years ago. In 2015 and 2016, Sunni Sky's was a finalist for a WRAL.com Voters' Choice Award for place "worth the drive." Last year, the shop was a finalist in the "best local ice cream" category.
The WRAL.com Voters' Choice Awards will be returning this fall.
