CLAYTON, N.C. — Drivers on Interstate 40 in the Clayton area will encounter some westbound delays Wednesday and Thursday as lanes are closed for roadwork, the state Department of Transportation announced Wednesday morning.

Crews will close one of the two westbound lanes between Exit 306 (U.S. Highway 70) and Exit 312 (N.C. Highway 42) from 3 p.m. each day to 6 a.m. the next day, NCDOT said.

Workers need to test pavement surfaces, the agency said. The work zone is part of the U.S. 70 Clayton Bypass project.
