RALEIGH, N.C. — A woman was killed after she exited her vehicle following a crash on Interstate 540 in Raleigh on Wednesday night.
Authorities said Melinda Scott, 58, of Danville, Va., pulled over onto the shoulder after her vehicle was sideswiped on I-540. She ran across three lanes of traffic to talk to the other driver involved in the crash, who had pulled onto the median.
When Scott attempted to walk back to her car to call 911 and report the crash, she was struck by an oncoming vehicle.
Scott was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other injuries were reported and authorities said no charges will be filed.
