FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The search is on for a suspect after a woman was found in her car with gunshot wounds early Wednesday morning in Fayetteville.

Police responded to two separate calls of 'shots fired.' Police say the initial disturbance was outside the Manhattan Deli in the 3300 block of Village Drive, located next the Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. They believe the victim took off in her car on Village Drive and was shot near Roxie Avenue, where they found her injured inside her car.

"There was a disturbance just prior to the shooting and shots were fired and unfortunately a female victim was struck," said Jeremy Strickland, spokesperson for the police.

Tyrece Kodjo was charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and shooting into an occupied vehicle. He remained at Cumberland County Jail on Wednesday night under no bond.

Justin Simmons was charged with accessory after the fact. He received a $50,000 bond for the charge.

Jeff Doulass, who lives nearby, says this isn't the first time they've heard gunshots at that intersection. He says neighbors are worried about the gun violence so close to home.

"Monday morning there was like 15 gunshots in that intersection," he says. "We called the police. This morning, about the same time, I hear 6 gunshots."

Douglass, who says he's an Army veteran, said the gunfire rattled him – so he decided to take pictures of what was going on.

"I peeped through the blinds and took a picture. This was last night. That shows the police in the intersection, and it shows the cones where they marked the casings," he said.

Douglass says what he didn't see was the red Ford Fusion in the intersection or the woman who was shot.

Police, however, insist this is where the woman was shot. Investigators say several vehicles traveled through that intersection just after the shots were fired and hit the victim -- and one vehicle actually stopped so the occupants could render aid to the women.

"That vehicle and the occupants did not stay long enough for us to get there and interview them," said Strickland. "It's very important that we do get to talk to them and get their side of the story. No matter how small they think their information might be, it could be a huge break in our case."

The woman was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
