FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — As police tried to subdue a woman armed with a hammer Monday afternoon, the woman got into the empty police car and drove it away.

Police were called to Campground Church Road just after 5 p.m. on the report of a person with a weapon. When they arrived, they found the woman waving a hammer. Officers tried to use a Taser on the woman, but it didn't work.

The woman hopped in the car and drove onto Morganton Road. At the intersection of Morganton and Skibo roads, she collided with four other cars. Police arrested the woman and took her to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

They did not release the woman's name or say whether anyone else was hurt in the wreck.
