FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A woman was shot Friday morning in the parking lot of a Red Roof Inn in Fayetteville.

Nearly 30 bullets went flying before 12:30 a.m. at the motel on 1902 Cedar Creek Road, which shares a parking lot with a Holiday Inn.

Officers with the Fayetteville Police Department said a woman was shot in one of her legs. She was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police said they do not believe the woman was the intended target of the gunfire.

A charter bus in the parking lot was hit multiple times by gunshots. A van and the front entrance of the Holiday Inn were hit as well, and the glass was shattered from where the front door was shot out.

The motive for the shooting was unclear, but officers said several people were outside the motel when someone in a passing vehicle began shooting. No one else was struck.

The driver of the bus told WRAL News he usually stays at the hotel when in the area but that he won't anymore.

Witnesses started running after hearing the shots.
