GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Officers are looking for a man whose sister was shot in the leg Sunday inside a Goldsboro hospital, according to police.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office said Wayne UNC Hospital was on lockdown Sunday night after what they initially believed was an active shooter situation.

Officials with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said a call came in just before 8:20 p.m. of a shooting in the hospital. The hospital was locked down until 9:10 p.m.

The Goldsboro Police Department on Monday stated the shooting was accidental. Officers are looking for Allen Carmichael, 40, the brother of the victim, to serve him a warrant of felony carrying a concealed weapon.

Officials said Carmichael's sister was not an employee but was wearing scrubs when she was shot on the sixth floor. She suffered an injury to her leg that authorities said is not believed to be life-threatening.

Carmichael left the building.

The hospital released the following statement on Sunday:

This evening, there was a shooting of a visitor inside Wayne UNC. As this will remain an ongoing investigation, we are unable to share details. However, we are grateful for the professionalism of our teammates and the quick response of our local law enforcement. Following a thorough sweep of the building we are grateful to announce that our facilities are safe and fully operational.
The shooting comes days after a mass shooting at a Tulsa hospital, where a shooter killed four people then himself. The assailant got inside a building on the Saint Francis Hospital campus with little trouble, just hours after buying an AR-style rifle, authorities said.
In California on Saturday, a man stabbed a doctor and two nurses in a hospital's emergency department.
