FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A woman was shot Monday several times outside a food mart in Fayetteville.

The shooting occurred before 2:30 p.m. at the Cumberland Food Mart at Hillsboro and Cumberland streets.

Investigators say a woman was in the parking lot when two men approached her and tried to steal her car.

Inside the store, worker Travis McLean heard the shots.

"I wasn't sure what happened," he said. "A lady comes in a few seconds later saying she was shot three times.

"She was frantic, saying she's been shot in the arm, saying 'It's burning and stinging,'" McLean said.

Investigators say when the woman ran into the store, the men tried to steal her car but the vehicle wouldn't start. The two men then fled on foot.

Police towed the victim's car to gather evidence. They are also going through video collected by the store's security cameras to try and identify the men.
