FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Police were searching for clues after a woman was shot early Saturday just north of downtown Fayetteville near a convenience store, authorities said.

Police were called to the Cumberland Food Mart, located at 432 Hillsborough Street, around 2:15 a.m. after gunfire was heard in the area.

When officers arrived they found the wounded 25-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound to her shoulder, authorities said. She was rushed for medical care to Cape Fear Valley Hospital, where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said in a written statement.

Police have not yet publicly identified the woman. Investigators said she has been "less than cooperative," according to the police statement.

Authorities said the bullet pierced her shoulder and exited through her neck.

Police did not say if anyone has been arrested in the connection with the incident. Police said the shooting does not appear to be random.

Investigators were searching for a man believed to be black with a light complexion who may have been driving a dark blue sedan in the area when the shooting occurred.

Anyone with information was asked to call Fayetteville police.
