Man arrested after woman's body found in laundry bin in Goldsboro

Police have arrested a man in connection with the death of a woman whose body was found Monday morning in a laundry bin on the side of a Goldsboro street.

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Police have arrested a man in connection with the death of a woman whose body was found Monday morning in a laundry bin on the side of a Goldsboro street.

Rocky M. Ashford of Goldsboro, was arrested and charged with murder, concealment, failure to report, and secretly disposing of a body, investigators said Tuesday in a written statement. The man was taken into custody at a home located in the 200 block of S. Center Street, police said.

He was being held on a $50,000 bond at the Wayne County jail, according to police. He was expected to make a first court appearance on Tuesday.

Police said Contrena Wooten, also of Goldsboro, was dumped in a bin that was placed on a sidewalk in the 400 block of East Holly Street.

It was not immediately clear if the suspect knew the woman or how she died.

The State Bureau of Investigation is assisting local police with the case.
