TARBORO, N.C. — A 20-year-old woman died in a two-vehicle wreck at N.C. highways 33 and 42, south of Tarboro late Tuesday, state troopers said.

Monique Anne Dudley, of Greenville, was going south on N.C. 33 around 11:30 p.m. when she ran through a stop sign and flashing red lights, troopers said. A Chevrolet pickup truck westbound on N.C. 42 struck the driver's side door of Dudley's car.

Dudley was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

The pickup truck flipped over and trapped the driver, Leslie Howard Bachman Jr., 48, of Williamston. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Heritage Hospital in Tarboro.

First responders said they found a cell phone near Dudley. They did not know if she was making a phone call or texting when the wreck happened. Troopers said that speed, alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the wreck.

Dudley was headed home from work at the Walmart store in Tarboro, troopers said. Bachman was headed to work at the Firestone plant.
