RALEIGH, N.C. — A 26-year-old woman was hurt late Friday night when she lost control of her car before it flipped over into a ditch, authorities said.

The victim, whose identity was pending, was ejected from the Volkswagen convertible during the incident in the northbound lanes of Hickory Grove Church Road around midnight, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said.

She was rushed for medical care to a local hospital, although her condition was not immediately disclosed. She suffered a head injury during the incident, authorities said.

According to the Highway Patrol, the woman was not wearing a seatbelt when the incident occurred. Her car came to a rest in the yard of a resident.

Investigators said the woman was speeding and had been drinking prior to the accident. She was expected to be charged with DWI, reckless driving, failure to wear a seatbelt and driving on a suspended license, authorities said.
