RALEIGH, N.C. — A woman died after being hit by a driver in the parking deck of Duke Raleigh Hospital on Wake Forest Road on Friday.

On Saturday, officials identified the woman as Mary Albrecht.

Albrecht, who lived in Angier, was walking to her car that was parked in the handicap space when she fell around 3 p.m.

According to a police report, Albrecht tripped over a speed bump at the top of the ramp and fell on her back. Immediately after that, the driver of the vehicle was at the bottom of the parking deck ramp for level 2 and began to make a turn and drive down the ramp of parking deck on level 1.

The driver was unable to see Albrecht because of what police called "visual obstructions within the parking deck." The driver went over the speed bump and Albrecht at the same time.

Police said Albrecht was dragged for around 100 feet underneath the vehicle before the driver stopped.

The parking lot at the hospital was roped off by police on Friday afternoon.
