DURHAM, N.C. — Two shootings in a 24-hour period in Durham have residents who live there on edge as the city continues to try to curb a rise in violent crime.

A woman was grazed by a stray bullet as a group of men shot at a car in Durham on Friday night, police said. A man was shot Saturday around 4:30 p.m. while outside.

Police said a man was driving around 11:45 p.m. Friday when he saw a black Dodge Charger started following him. Three men were in the Charger and began shooting at the man, police said. The man was not hit, but a woman at her home on Miller Drive was struck. Her injuries were superficial and not life-threatening, police said.

A bullet also hit a window of a home on Swanns Mill Drive.

The man who was hit by a bullet on Saturday was standing in the driveway of a home on Southerland Street. He injuries were also not believed to be life-threatening.

Police were still investigating both shootings as of Saturday night.

"My daughter’s car was hit by a stray bullet," said Crystal, who didn't want to use her last name. "And my daughter could’ve been in the car at the time. My grandson could’ve been in the car at the time. Just innocent people getting harmed in Durham."

There’s a fear among those we talked to Saturday that crime is going up in Durham. The latest stats from police show violent crime is up, including homicides, which are up 42 percent from last year.
